Job Title: Academic Coordinator
Work Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, occasional Saturdays 24hrs/ week
Salary Range: $15-17/hr

Work Schedule: Part Time

Primary Job Function:
The Academic Coordinators primary function is to help meet the needs of the Education Department, including but not limited to, assisting Optimum Performance Institute's (OPI) participants in attaining their short and long term educational goals. In addition, the academic coordinator will provide participants with a personalized ed plan as well as help them enroll in school, add classes, choose major, etc. The academic coordinator is also expected to co-facilitate the four week student success seminar as well as attend bi-monthly educational outings (Saturdays).  

Reports to:
        Director of Educational Services & Community Integration

Consults with:

  • Director of Educational Services & Community Integration
  • Treatment Team
  • Parents/guardian
  • Schools and other educational institutions


  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Child Development, or related field.  Master's  degree preferred
  • Experience providing academic advising in a school or treatment facility
  • Experience advising students from various backgrounds and interests
  • Experience assisting students in planning strategies for meeting academic goals
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a part of a treatment team
  • Experience working with student with various mental health diagnoses & learning disabilities
  • Experience setting appropriate boundaries with clients
  • Great organizational skills
  • Knowledge and experience with various college applications (CSU, UC & Common App.)
  • CA Driver's license and clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to drive when needed.
  • Must pass TB test
  • Willing to become CPR/First Aid Certified and get flu shot

Daily Duties:

  • Conduct weekly  educational check-ins with participants and document on BestNotes
  • Implement study plan for participants who require more micromanaging and/or organizational skills
  • Keep a running record of the dates and deadlines of the different schools that students are attending
  • Update OPI schedules when students need to drop or modify a class
  • Co-facilitate Facilitate four week Student Success Seminar
  • Ensure that all educational files are regularly updated with all pertinent participant information current class syllabi,  transcripts,  educational psych evaluations, etc.  
  • Be familiar with community colleges and High School completion options in the area
  • Ensure Participants receive a map of school/campuses prior to first day of class
  • Contact parent/guardian and provide them with a monthly education progress update
  • Attend weekly treatment team, in-services/trainings, and Participant team meetings
  • Attend bi-monthly educational outings
